Abstract

It's good to be here today, and I appreciate the invitation. I would like to talk about the world tobacco situation. Although I now work with the Farm Service Agency, I still follow the world situation, because the global market and the global tobacco economy are extremely in1portant to us. Some of the things that I am going to say here today you have heard before. Some of the things I am going to say are probably going to irritate some of you (but I was eligible to retire last year about this time so I am going to say them anyway). Primarily I will be talking about flue-cured tobacco, although the situation for burley is about the same.
